The information of the patients that must be operated the nearsightedness (myopia), the farsightedness (hypermetropia) and / or the astigmatism by Laser Excimer

In Ophthalmology, the laser excimer has for principle to modify the shape of the cornea. It acts on the cornea by photoablation. Its main indication is the refractive surgery of compensation of the nearsightedness (myopia),  the farsightedness (hypermetropia) and the astigmatism.

INDICATIONS
This technique is indicated in the nearsightedness (myopias) included between -1.00 and – 8.00 dioptres. The farsightedness (hypermetropia) lower than five dioptres.

WHY IS NECESSARY IT TO OPERATE?
The motivations of the patients are essentially aesthetic and\or professional: policemen, fire brigades, sportsmen, servicemen… To note that we never operate patients before the age of 18 years, as long as their growth is in progress and that their nearsightedness (myopia) is still in evolution.

INTERVENTION 

IN WHAT CONSISTED THE INTERVENTION?

 

We practise an ablation of corneal tissue, so as to return the more flat summit of the cornea of some microns for the nearsightedness (myopia) and more spray-painted for the farsightedness (hypermetropia).

TWO OPERATIVE PROCEDURES

 

1. The Laser of surface (Refractive photokeratectomy or PRK)

The laser beam is applied to the surface of the cornea; the method is painless and short of a few seconds, always less than one minute, but the visual recovery  is made from week to month, and painful consequences were compensated with antalgics.

2. The stromal intra Laser ( Lasik)

The Laser is applied in the thickness of the cornea after surgical cut of a shutter(sector) of corneal tissue put back in place at the end of intervention. The technique is painless, a little longer, five minutes moreover, but the visual recovery(recycling) is faster and consequences(suites) are painless. It is the technique of reference in our days ( 2010 )

WHEN IS  IT NECESSARY  TO BE HOSPITALIZED?

That very day and at the time of the intervention.

 

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA?

Anesthesia by collyrium. We can add a painkiller if the patient is worried.

 

HOW LONG WHAT IS THE INTERVENTION?

A few minutes; the action of the laser it is about few seconde. it is painless.

 

HOW WILL BE THE SCAR ? Absolutely invisible.

 

CAN ONE OPERATE BOTH EYES AT THE SAME TIME? Yes, the reliability of the material and the technique being completed sure.

THE RETURN IN the PLACE OF RESIDENCE

Exit: as soon as the operation is finished.

Prescription of exit: collyriums are prescribed; an antalgic in case of surface treatment, a pain within first 24 hours being usual.

Means of transportation: indifferent.

Sick leave : 3 in 8 days.

Regime: normal.

Next consultation: the day after the operation and 8 days later.

 

 

In novembrer on 2010, with this Laser, Doctor ELGOLLI has a recession of twenty years.
